The Retention [microform] : Promotion Checklist / Jim Grant and Irv Richardson

This book focuses on how elementary school teachers and administrators can make sensible, well-reasoned, and defensible retention and promotion decisions. The book contains a reproducible retention/promotion checklist made up of questions selected on the basis of factors that have an impact on school success or failure. Checklist summary and recommendation pages are designed to help educators quickly and easily summarize the reasons for the retention or promotion decision and the recommended course of action for the student. The "Explanation of Checklist Responses" section helps educators analyze and use the information gathered in the checklist; each question's relevance to the retention/promotion decision is explained. Appendices are included to provide additional information or to clarify the decision-making process. The included Individual Retention Plan (IRP) and Individual Promotion Plan (IPP) were developed to help teachers, specialists, and parents/guardians come to a clear understanding of the goals, objectives, and support services for an individual student, as well as to evaluate student progress and clearly communicate that progress to parents. Finally, samples of completed checklists and plans are included to help guide the child study team formed for the purpose of retention/promotion decision-making. Contains 51 references. (EV)
